An electrochemical device has an electrochemical cell with electrodes 2,5 mounted on a solid electrolyte layer 1 and a heater 10 carried by a ceramics material 8,9. To prevent cracks due to expansion or sintering shrinkage differences between the heater insulator and the solid electrolyte layer and to improve insulation, the heater is carried by a ceramics layre 8,9 having substantially the same thermal expansion coefficient as the electrolyte layer and a high-resistance ceramics layer 12 is disposed between the solid electrolyte layer and the ceramics layer.
