Concrete having high compressive strength - from mixt. contg. dry, porous, light adsorbent aggregates

Mixt. consists of cement, water, heavy aggregates, e.g. quartz sand, and light aggregates, also contains dry, porous, light adsorbent aggregates (A), e.g. blast furnace slag, expanded clay, open-celled artificial foams, e.g. polyurethane- or phenol resin foams, glass foams, etc., added in an amount of 20 wt.% w.r.t. total wt. of mixt., and having a particle size of 1-16mm. Admixture of (A) allows addn. of water to cement compsn. in an amount corresponding to a high hydraulic cement value of 0.5-0.6. Moment of water-absorption by (A) is pref. retarded by pre-treating or coating (A) with materials, which dissolve only slowly in water e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, polyacetate or glue.
