PURPOSE:To prevent cracking and abnormal deformation in the ridge parts of a billet cast continuously by a synchronous rotation type in cooling said billet by maintaining the ratio between the cooling rate within a specified distance from the face end of the billet and the cooling rate in the parts except the same within a specific range by volume of water. CONSTITUTION:A billet is cooled in such a way that the ratio between the coefft. ratio of heat transmission in the part of <=1/4 the width from the corner on the surface of said billet and the coefft. ratio of heat transmission in the other parts attains 0.4-0.8 within a 0.3-1.3l/kg.s range by volume of water to prevent cracking and abnormal deformation in the corner part of the billet. The adequate angle theta at which cooling water is sprayed onto the billet is 60 deg.>theta>30 deg..
