PURPOSE:To give easily a correction to a tracking error by shifting an information reproducing means in the width direction of a track every fixed time and every fixed extent and switching the shifting direction after discriminating the increase/decrease of the signal amplitudes obtained before and after the shift of said reproducing means. CONSTITUTION:An information reproducing head 2 is shifted in the width direction of an information recording track by a fixed minute extent. Then the increase/decrease of the envelope sizes showing the amplitudes of reproduced signals obtained before and after the shift of the head 2 is discriminated. When the envelopes increase, the head 2 is shifted again in the same direction. In case no increase is detected, the control is carried out continuously to shift the heat 2 in the opposite direction in the cycle of a pulse P produced by a pulse generator 8. Thus it is possible to converge the position of a head gap 2a of the head 2 to an information recording track 1a. |
