A description is given of a process for the production of rotatable ignition elements or friction wheels, for lighters for example. In contrast to the prior art, according to which elements or wheels of this kind are produced by means of cutting tools, the novel process involves forming. With the aid of a series of pressing operations, the peripheral edges of a wire blank are rounded off and axial assembly holes are provided. The pressing operations have the effect of hardening the corresponding surfaces of the blanks. Finally, the peripheral surfaces of the blanks are formed to give friction surfaces.
