Salts of TCNQ (7,7,8,8-tetracyano-p-quinodimethane such as the copper (dipyridylamine), tetrathiafulvalene (TTF), ferrocene, triethylamine and quinoline salts are used in the fabrication of electrodes for direct electrical determination of the progress of flavoprotein enzyme reactions, the enzyme preferably being associated at the electrode surface. Choline oxidase and pyruvate oxidase for phosphate assay, are preferred enzymes and the salt TTF<+>TCNQ<-> is the preferred salt.
