The invention encompasses a method for treating or preventing an inflammator y disease or condition in a mammalian patient in need of such treatment or prevention comprising administering to said patient a compound that is capab le of simultaneously binding PPAR.alpha. and PPAR.gamma. or concomitantly administering a compound that selectively binds PPAR.alpha. with a compound that selectively binds PPAR.gamma. in an amount that is effective to treat o r prevent the inflammatory disease or condition. The invention also encompasse s a method for treating or preventing an inflammatory disease or condition in a mammalian patient in need of such treatment or prevention comprising administering to said patient a compound that is capable of simultaneously binding and activating PPAR.alpha. and PPAR.gamma. or concomitantly administering a compound that selectively binds and activates PPAR.alpha. wi th a compound that selectively binds and activates PPAR.gamma. in an amount tha t is effective to treat or prevent the inflammatory disease or condition.
