PURPOSE:To improve the heat insulating effect of a riser and to improve the yield of nondefective products by installing a feeder head ring to the inside surface side in the upper part of a casting mold having an open top end, disposing an exothermic or heat insulating feeder head sleeve to said ring and supplying a molten metal to the mold thereby forming an ingot. CONSTITUTION:A casting mold 11 is placed on a molding board 12 and the hooks of a conveyor are set to the hooks 16c of a feeder head ring 16. The ring 16 is mounted in the open top end 11a of the mold 11 and the flange part of the ring 16 is detained to the top end of the mold 11. A feeder head sleeve 17 consisting of an exothermic or heat insulating material is further mounted in the ring 16 and the flange part of the sleeve 17 is detained to the flange part of the ring 16. A molten metal is then supplied into the mold and an ingot is formed while the heat in the riser part necked down by the sleeve 17 is substantially retained. The degree of necking the riser part is thus additionally increased and the yield of the nondefective product is improved. |
