<p>The surface friction of rubber articles is reduced by firstly wetting them with carbon tetrafluoride, exposing to a glow discharge, and secondly coating with a polymer e.g. PTFE, and exposing further to a glow discharge, both exposures being for over one hour. Suitable apparatus comprises (i), in Figure 1 a rotatable cylindrical 'squirrel- cage' 5 in which the articles 9 are tumbled, the whole being inside a chamber 1 equipped with electrodes or (ii) in Figure 3, a rotatable horizontal concave table 16 inside a chamber 1 with electrodes 15. <IMAGE></p> |
