PURPOSE:To color continuously a stainless steel strip at a high speed with high productivity without uneven coloring by passing continuously said strip through a coloring bath to color the same, sticking the liquid of the same color as the color of the coloring liquid thereto in succession to said coloring then cooling the steel strip. CONSTITUTION:A stainless steel strip is passed continuously through the inside of a coloring bath 6 under stirring by means of immersion or half-immersion rolls 5, 7, then the coloring liquid in the bath 6 lifted by a pump 12 is passed through a cooling tank 13 and is thereby cooled according to need. Such cooled liquid is sprayed to both surfaces of the steel strip from spray nozzles 14, 14 so as to be stuck thereto. The coloring liquid sticking to the steel strip is uniformly squeezed away preferably by squeezing rolls 21, 21 and is returned to the bath 6. The colored stainless steel 15 which is uniformly colored in the above-mentioned way is passed through a cooling device 18 where the air cooled by a cooler 19 is blown to the strip to cool the strip and to stop the coloring reaction.
