If the feed (vP) of a milling cutter (F) is related to its centre path, this feed has to be corrected when machining circular contours. To ensure that the feed at the point (P2) of contact between the milling cutter (F) and the workpiece (W2) corresponds to the feed intended for the cutting process, a desired feed (vS) to be aimed at is therefore obtained which fulfils the following condition: vS = vP . (1 + x . R/rP), where vS is the desired feed, vP is the feed programmed in accordance with the cutting process, R is the effective cutter radius and rP is the workpiece radius. The value x amounts to +1 or -1 if an external or internal contour is machined. <IMAGE>
