PURPOSE:To enable high speed changeover of light transmission paths and to reduce output of missignals due to the delay of the changeover time by using a substance having an electrooptical effect causing change of refractive index induced by an electric signal, for the changeover section of light transmission. CONSTITUTION:Both sides of a changeover element 1 having an electrooptic effect are provided with transparent electrodes 2, and when voltage is applied between both electrodes 2 from a DC power supply 3, the element 1 causes deformation by piezoelectric effect and electrostrictive effect. This deformation changes the molecular level structure of this substance, and the polarization state dependent on the molecular structure, resulting in changing the refractive index as the macroscopic observable quantity. The light path can be changed by using said effect, and applying voltage to said element 1 to cause change of the light emitting position of the incident light before and after the voltage application. |
