Reaction of carboxylic-acid esters with an alkyl thiol and a Lewis acid mildly and efficiently effecting de-esterification. The de-esterification process is carried out on esters of Cephalosporin, oxadethiacephalosporin, carbacephalosporin, penicillin and carbapenem derivatives.
