PURPOSE:To perform excellent tracking control by preventing the vibration of a reproducing head position from continuing for a long time even if the vibration of the head position is caused by the backlask of a head feeding system when confirming that the reproducing head position is near a peak of an envelope. CONSTITUTION:Confirming operation is carried out near a peak of the envelope so as to set a head 26 at an optimum track position. The head supporting mechanism 28 from a stepping motor 30 to the head 26 has a high speed reduction ratio so as to move the head 26 finely; with high position precision and obtain large torque with the small motor 30. Gears in use, however, have backlash, so there is a play in the feeding of the head 26. Therefore, the envelope level detected at a return position is possibly different from the last detected value and even when the head 26 vibrates continuously, for example, four times, it is considered that the head is put on a track and reproducing operation is entered. |
