In order to manoeuvre even very heavy high-capacity aircraft on the ground, a shunting vehicle is proposed in which an approximately U-shaped supporting frame for a lifting and locking device which engages on the nose undercarriage of the aircraft is supported in a floating manner within the fork-shaped end of the chassis. The supporting frame can be connected to the chassis in a force-fitting manner via hydraulic cylinders, in such a manner that the supporting frame is positioned around the nose undercarriage, without rotation of the same, when no pressure is applied to the hydraulic cylinders, the hydraulic cylinders are subsequently blocked and, finally - once the nose undercarriage has been clamped in and lifted - the hydraulic cylinders are operated in the sense of rotating the supporting frame into the longitudinal axis of the shunting vehicle. <IMAGE>
