PURPOSE:To reduce expansion of a nonaqueous electrolyte battery caused due to electric discharge by specifying the difference between the surface areas of parts of the positive and the negative electrodes facing each other and restricting the relationship between the thickness of lithium contained in the battery, that of an electrolyte layer and that of a gas layer. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode contains M (mg) of manganese dioxide. The surface area of a part of the positive electrode facing a negative electrode is S (cm<2>). The difference between the surface areas of parts of the positive and the negative electrodes facing each other in a nonaqueous electrolyte battery, is adjusted to within 10%. Here, the thickness (tLi) of Li contained in the battery, that (tEl) of an electrolyte layer and that (tg) of a gas layer are restricted according to the formula (tLi+tEl+tg)mum>=0.85.S.Mum/mg.cm<2>. As a result, expansion of a lithium-manganese dioxide battery caused due to its over-discharge is extremely minimized. |
