<p>PURPOSE:To monitor the temp. at many points with simple constitution by measuring the transmission loss of the light signal owing to the various radii of curvature of an optical fiber or the transmission loss of the light signal owing to the strain characteristic of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The radius of a circular cylinder 2 increases with the thermal expansion arising from the temp. rise of the column 2 and the radius of curvature of an optical fiber 3 wound around the column 2 increases accordingly. The transmission loss of the fiber 3 decreases in proportion to the increase in the radius of curvature thereof in this stage. The light transmitted by the fiber 3 is detected by a judging part for detection signal and the output signal thereof is differentiated and compared with a set value, by which the temp. is detected.</p> |
