The hydantoin derivatives of the formula I are prepared by alkylating a compound of the formula X using an active ester derivative of an alcohol of the formula J<3>-OH. The substituents in formulae I and X have the definitions given in Patent Claim 1. The compounds of the formula I have pharmacological properties which are related to those of the natural prostaglandins. <IMAGE>
