PURPOSE:To contrive easy and low cost manufacturing of an engine by making the transfer of the rocking motion of rocker arms to valve arms intermittent by means of shifting the carriers in a planetary gear mechanism by the control of electromagnetic coil current. CONSTITUTION:When rocker arms 2, 3 cause rocking motion by the rotation of a cam shaft 4, planetary gears 13..., 14... rotate through the mediation of sun gears 9, 10 arranged on the outer periphery of cylidrical portions 2a, 3a of the rocker-arms 2, 3. At this time, if an electromagnetic coil 19 is not energized and carriers 15, 16 are rotatably held against the rocker shaft 1, the planetary gears 13..., 14... move around the sun gears 9, 10 while turning on their own axes. Therefore, ring gears 11, 12 do not rotate and each of valve arms 5, 6 does not move and suction and exhaust valves 7, 8 are kept closed. Whereas, if the electromagnetic coil 19 is energized to attract the carriers 15, 16 and fix them to the rocker shaft 1, the arms 5, 6 cause rocking motion and the suction and exhaust valves 7, 8 are opened or closed. |
