The invention relates to the fitting of a hydropneumatic suspension to the rear wheels of a vehicle which initially included some other type of suspension. The unit 7 groups together on its frame 10, 11, the hydropneumatic elements 19 of the suspension, and a torsion bar 22 linking the independent wheels 6. It is sufficient to fix the unit 7 via its four soleplates 8 and 9 to the supports initially provided on the chassis of the vehicle, for example for receiving the carrier brackets of leaf springs. Application: simple and quick modification of the rear suspension, particularly for a small van, an all-terrain vehicle, or an ambulance. <IMAGE>
