In order to be able to pass not only flexible, but also rigid treatment material through a metallising oven of a continuously operating unit, without any risk of an escape of the molten metal from the metallising oven, an overflow vessel (13) is provided in the oven chamber of the metallising oven (1) above the metal bath (11), which overflow vessel has an inlet opening (25) and an outlet opening (26) which are aligned with the inlet opening (8) and the outlet opening (9) of the metallising oven. A transfer pump (19, 20, 21) continuously delivers molten metal to the overflow vessel (13) so that the liquid level (23) of the liquid bath (20) in the overflow vessel is always above the horizontal transport plane (H). Excess molten metal leaves through the inlet opening (25) and the outlet opening (26) of the overflow vessel or runs off over an upper edge (24) of a side wall (15) of the overflow vessel (13) and drops into the metal bath (11). A partition (16, 16a) forming a part of the overflow vessel divides the oven chamber into two oven chambers (17, 18) separated gas-tightly from one another, one of which (17) is filled with blanketing gas. <IMAGE>
