PURPOSE:To utilize as a coupler of a semiconductor laser with an optical fiber to produce a monitoring light from the laser by branching the light emitted from the laser in the midway of an optical path for coupling the laser with the optical fiber to produce the monitoring light. CONSTITUTION:A spherical lens 1a, a focusing rod lens 2a and an optical fiber 5 are coaxially disposed in this order in front of a semiconductor laser 3a which is approached at the reflectivity of its back surface to 100% by coating a reflective film on the back surface. In this structure, the light emitted from the laser 3a is condensed by the lens 1 to become a parallel beam and incident to a beam splitter 6. The laser light is branched by the splitter 6, one is linearly propagated to be incident to the lens 2a, and focused to be incident to the fiber 5. The laser light branched by the splitter 6 perpendicularly to the optical path is focused by a focusing rod lens 7 and produced as a monitoring light.
