METHOD FOR ELECTROLYTICALLY REFINING COPPER

PURPOSE:To obtain high quality electrolytic copper having a low hydrogen content by dissolving the surface of a starting sheet stripped from a mother sheet and using the resulting sheet as a starting sheet for depositing electrolytic copper. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces of a starting sheet stripped from a mother sheet are dissolved with an acidic bath for etching or by electrolysis in a copper electrolytic soln. by about 0.05-10mum thickness. A releasing agent is well removed by the dissolution. Copper is electrolytically refined using the resulting starting sheet as a cathode. A billet of electrolytic copper deposited by this method has a low hydrogen content and contains little or no blow holes.
