<p>PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus for purifying a gas stream containing impurities, water vapor and carbon dioxide. CONSTITUTION: Air is purified by passing it upward through a first lower bed 4 of activated alumina particles which adsorb selectively water vapor from the air and passing downward through a second upper bed 6 of zeolite 13X molecular sieve particles which adsorb selectively carbon dioxide form the air. Once fully loaded with adsorbed components, the beds 4, 6 are regenerated by passing a hot regeneration gas so that a part of the hot regeneration gas is passed downward through the first bed 4 and another part is passed upward through the second bed 6. The hot regeneration gas is preferentially used for desorbing previously adsorbed components. Once the regeneration is completed, the temperature of the beds are lowered to adsorbing ones and they are used again for purifying the air.</p> |
