PURPOSE:To easily improve and enlarge the resolution of a picture reader without using any line reading sensor of high resolution, by making the angle formed by the direction of picture element lines and the auxiliary scanning direction larger than 90 deg.. CONSTITUTION:When the length of a picture element line is represented by L2, an extent which can be read at once in a direction perpendicular to the auxiliary scanning direction becomes L2 costheta and is narrowed by costheta times as compared with a case where the picture element line is arranged perpendicularly to the auxiliary scanning direction. Therefore, reading is performed to a narrow extent with the same number of dots and, as a result, resolution in the main scanning direction is improved by 1/costheta times. Since the reading extent in the main scanning direction is narrowed by costheta times when a line reading sensor is set obliquely, the quantity of line feed is reduced by costheta times to eliminate the gap between lines. |
