PURPOSE:To obtain a polarizer equivalent to a lambda/4 and a lambda/2 plate which eliminates the need for a rotator, polarizer, and lens, by using an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:For example, DELTAbeta=(2pia.r<2>)/lambdaR<2> (a: coefficient of coupling), where Z and (r) are the winding direction and radius of the optical fiber and R and DELTAbetarad/m are the radius of curvature and refractive index. In this case, the value DELTAbeta varies with R and (r), and values of plural matrixes of light vary to shift the direction of polarization. Thus, when the coherent light having polarizing characteristics is incident to one terminal, the polarizer which changes the direction of polarization at the other terminal is obtained. In this case, the optical fiber can not be wound only by itself, so the optical fiber 11 is put in the copper- made tube 12 from its cut 12a. Then, the tube is wound to secure the wound state of theoptical fiber 11. |
