PURPOSE:To ensure the extinguishment at the occasion of an emergency by connecting a wick movement carrier and a locking mechanism through a linkage made of thermally fusible material. CONSTITUTION:Since a wick movement carrier 8 and a locking mechanism 11 by way of an operating member 9 are connected by a linkage 10 made of thermally fusible material, when an abnormal flame flares up inside a liquid fuel burning appliance due to an emergency situation for some reason or another, the linkage 10 made of thermally fusible material having a small heat capacity is melted or softened by the heat of the flame and is severed by a spring force of an extinguishing spring 7. As the engagement between the operating member 9 and the wick movement carrier 8 is released because of such even if the locking mechanism 11 is not mechanically unlocked, a burner wick 4 is lowered to the extinguishing position due to the force of the extinguishing spring 7 for quick extinguishment. In this manner, the reliability of extinguishment can be improved.
