The dustbin for a kitchen comprises a shaft shaped container (2), open at the top with two hemispherical flaps (3a,3b) hinged to the shaft. The flaps are opened by a pedal (25) and returned by a torsion spring. Each flap comprises near its closing plane, two downward directed arms (4) articulated about a common transverse axis. This articulation is effected by two distinct fingers (5), projecting from the shaft below its opening, located either side the container median plane. The opening control consists of a vertical pushrod (14) whose upper end is supported on the rear arms of the flaps in the gap between the articulation fingers. The pushrod lower end is articulated at the rear end of a support lever (22) which is articulated under the shaft and has the pedal at its free end.
