The method is intended for producing a metal drum or barrel with cylindrical wall (1) and end walls (2) connected via roll folds. The outer dia. of these connections does not exceed the outer drum dia. The wall initially has annular outward flanges at its ends, of which the inner dia. equals the inner drum dia. whilst each end wall has an outward annular flange parallel to the drum flange and a deepened cylindrical portion which fits in the drum end. Simultaneously with the fold rolling (21) operation, the end portion of the drum wall and the cylindrical portion of the end wall in contact with it are inwardly deformed, against pivoted internal contoured supports (15). This reduces the outer dia. of the roll fold being formed.
