The lamp has a chassis, a base, and a non-opaque globe. The chassis includes a cylindrical part at one end. The external shell comprises the base and the globe which together form the spherical housing. Both parts are in plastic materials with slots or openings to permit a cooling air flow. The cylindrical part has two extensions supporting the holding member and in turn the wall members which carry the ballast. The holding member also provides the mounting for the folded envelope of the fluorescent lamp which actually surrounds the ballast.
