PURPOSE:To stabilize the characteristics of an electrophotographic sensitive body in a short time and to improve the corrosion resistance by depositing a selenium-base material on an electrically conductive substrate to form a photosensitive layer and by immersing the resulting sensitive body in boiling pure water to carry out heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:An Se-base material is vacuum-deposited on an electrically conductive substrate of Al or the like to form a photosensitive layer. After the lapse of 24hr, the resulting sensitive body is immersed in boiling pure water (distilled water) for 30-60min, and it is taken out and dried. The electric potential after electrostatic charge changes largely until the sensitive body is immersed for 30min, and when the potential after the lapse of 10 days after the vacuum deposition is considered to be 100, the potential attains to 95% by immersion for 30min. The whole sensitive body is uniformly stabilized, and a boehmite film is formed on the exposed Al surface to improve the corrosion resistance. Conventional preservation in the dark for 10 days or repeated electric charge and discharge for accelerating stabilization are not required, and an ultraviolet-ray irradiator or other apparatus is made unnecessary.
