PURPOSE:To increase performance of a fuel cell by using electron conductive catalytic active elements prepared by mixing a specified amount of fire resistant material other than silver as main element to a small amount of silver, in at least one of gas diffusion electrodes. CONSTITUTION:In a molten carbonate fuel cell, at least one of gas diffusion electrodes is formed with an electron conductive material comprising fire resistant material other than silver and containing silver as catalytic active element. The ratio of fire resistant material other than silver to silver is 99.5:0.5-80:20 (atomic ratio). The fire resistant material other than silver is selected from cobalt, iron, or copper, or mixture or alloy of these metals. Electrochemical reaction in three phase interface (electrode, gas, and electrolyte) become active by silver contained material and cell performance is increased. When lithium is contained in catalytic active element, corrosion resistance of electrode to electrolyte and electron conductivity are increased. |
