PURPOSE:To raise a discriminating accuracy, and to detect an abnormal particle by considering, etc. two-dimensionally an amplitude and a width information of a detecting pulse signal in case a particle suspension passes through a fine detecting part. CONSTITUTION:In a detecting pulse signal in case a particle suspension from a photodetector 31 passes through a fine detecting part, an amplitude of a pulse exceeding a threshold level by a noise threshold comparator 35 is processed by a pulse amplitude peak holding circuit 36, the first and the second comparators 41, 42, an AND circuit 43, an FF45, a counter 59, etc., and becomes a pulse amplitude digital value. This digital value becomes an address, a memory 60 is brought to access, and a frequency driven by an increment circuit 61 is witten. On the other hand, in the same way, the pulse width digital value becomes an address and the frequency is written in the memory 60. Subsequently, in accordance with a pulse amplitude frequency distribution and a pulse width frequency distribution which are based on two-dimensional contents of the memory 60, a computer 62 analyzes and determines the number of particles. According to this constitution which utilizes two kinds of frequency distributions, a particle discriminating accuracy of a particle counting device is improved, and also an abnormal particle can be detected.
