PURPOSE:To reduce initial cost by providing a doctor blade which removes the remaining part of the paint supplied onto an applicator roll except the required part. CONSTITUTION:The paint 4 in a paint pan 9 is picked up according to the revolution of a pick-up roll 13 and is supplied over the entire width on the outside circumference of an applicator oll 1. As the roll 1 revolves, the paint 4 on the outside circumference thereof is scraped away by a doctor blade 5 except the notched part 14 where the paint passes, by which the paint remaining like a stripe in the circumferential direction is transferred on a belt-like base material 3. The rotating direction of the roll 1 is set in the direction opposite from the advancing direction of the material 3, by which the boundary of the striped pattern to be applied on the material 3 is sharply expressed.
