NEW MATERIAL:Monoazo compounds of formula I wherein X1, X2, X3, X4 are each H, Cl, Br, nitro; Y is H, Cl, a 1-2C alkyl; R is a 1-8C alkyl which may be branched, aryl, a group of formula II; n is 1, 2 with the proviso that at least two of X1, X2, X3, X4 are H, but there is no case where all X's are H. USE:Dyes which dye or print hydrophobic fibers, particularly polyester fiber with high dyeability and with excellent fastness to water and perspiration in particular. The dyes have excellent reducing dischargeability and alkaline resistance and is superior as alkaline resist-printing dyes and dyes for effect color. PREPARATION:A 2-aminobenzothiazole of formula III is diazotized and coupled with an aniline derivative of formula IV to obtain the desired compd.
