PURPOSE:To obtain an art glass having steric appearance and artistic originality, by engraving a flat glass plate with a desired pattern at the reverse side of the glass, placing a backing plate to the engraved side of the glass, and covering the outer circumference of the glass plate to shield the sides and the back of the glass from light. CONSTITUTION:The reverse surface of a glass plate 1 is engraved with an exquisite relief pattern 4, and a backing plate 2 is attached closely to the reverse surface of the glass plate 1 to shield the glass from the incidence of light from backside. The outer circumference of the glass plate 1 is covered completely with a frame 3 made of a light-shielding material to inhibit the incidence of light from the side ends, thereby allowing the incidence of light only from the front face of the glass plate 1. For example, a picture frame is used as the light- shielding material 3, and a supporting plate 5, etc. is attached to the backing plate 2. The front surface of the art glass is smooth, and stains attached thereto can be wiped off easily.
