The invention relates to polymerisable esters of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid with aromatic thioether alcohols of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which m is 0 or 1, n is 1 to 3, R is an aromatic radical and R' is H or CH3. They are prepared by reacting thioether alcohols with C1- to C4-alkyl esters of acrylic acid or of methacrylic acid at 30 to 120 DEG C in the presence of transesterification catalysts and in the presence of polymerisation inhibitors.
