PURPOSE:To miniaturize individual ignition coils and improve the reliability of high voltage side wiring by a method wherein one set of ignition coils are driven simultaneously by one primary current interrupting circuit to produce a secondary generating output by the sum of performances of respective ignition coils. CONSTITUTION:The ignition coils 2A-2D are connected to the ignition plugs 5 of respective cylinders respectively and two sets of coils among the ignition coils 2A-2D are formed into one set. Respective one ends of the primary coils 2 and the secondary coils 3 of respective ignition coils 2A-2D are connected respectively to form one set of double ignition coil by the ignition coils 2A, 2B and the same coils 2C, 2D while respective double ignition coils are operated by one set of primary current interrupting circuit 4 respectively. When the primary current is interrupted, a voltage is generated between the high voltage terminal of one ignition coil 2A(2C) and the same terminal of the other ignition coil 2B(2D) with a value wherein the performances of one ignition coil 2A(2C) and the other ignition coil 2B (2D) are added.
