DICHROIC COLORING MATTER FOR COLOR LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To provide the titled coloring matter consisting of a compd. having a propylene structure in the center and an azo color introduced at the terminal, which has a high dichromism ratio, a high solubility in liq. crystal and a long service life. CONSTITUTION:The dichroic coloring matter for color liq. crystal display element consists of a compd. of formula I (where A and B are of formula I , IIor III; Y is of formula IV, -R or -OR; R1 and R2 are alkyls), e.g. compds. of formula V and VI. The coloring matter is dissolved in an amt. of about 1% in a cyanobiphenyl type liq. crystal compsn. having a positive dielectric anisotropy and the resultant compsn. is sealed in a liq. crystal cell to produce a guest-host type color liq. crystal display element having a long light-resistant service life.
