NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (n is an integer 1-3; R1 is H, 1-4C alkyl or 1-5C acyl). EXAMPLE:2, 2, 2-Tris[ 3-( 3-methyl-5-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl )propionylmethyl] ethanol. USE:A stabilizer for polyolefins, particularly effective for polypropylene, and used within 0.01-1pt.wt. range based on 100pts.wt. polyolefins. PREPARATION:A 3-(3-methyl-5-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid of formula II (R is H or 1-4C alkyl) is reacted with a pentaerythritol of formula IIIat (0.5-4):1 molar ratio in the presence of an acidic or basic catalyst at 130- 200 deg.C temperature to give the aimed compound of formula I .
