In a process for fattening a fattening pig, a pig is offered, over a predetermined fattening period, depending on the total weight gain Z desired during the fattening period, rations of a standardised pig compound feed in a total amount of feed M (kilogram), which is calculated by the formula M = J x ZN. In this context, N denotes the amount of utilisable energy which the pig can convert into 1 kilogram of weight gain. J represents a conversion factor which depends on the content of utilisable energy in the pig compound feed, and which converts the quantity ZN to kilograms. To the pig compound feed there are admixed granular, porous, "expanded perlite or vermiculite" or mixtures of these, namely in an amount of P kilogram corresponding to 0.2 to 6.0 per cent by weight of the finished pig compound feed. To achieve the total weight gain Z, the fattening pig is offered a total amount of feed which, depending on P, is reduced to M - 2P or less. |
