PURPOSE:To enable generation of ion and suspension of generation of ion with a simple construction by using a mechanical mechanism. CONSTITUTION:Generation of ion and suspension of generation of ion are performed by inhibiting concentration of electric field of needle ionizing electrode to prevent corona discharge, concretely by drawing the needle ionizing electrode in a member made of a dielectric material or by covering the electrode with the dielectric member. Namely, an insertion hole 4 is provided to the side confronting an ionizing counter electrode 3 in an air passage 1 to enable the needle ionizing electrode 5 to come out of the hole or go into the hole 4 freely or by providing a member 6 made of a dielectric material which is adjustably contacted or separated at a position confronting the needle ionizing electrode in the air passage 1, to inhibit concentration of electric field of the needle ionizing electrode 5. As a result, generation of ion can be controlled with a simple constitution and sufficient insulation of an electric power source at high voltage can be held.
