PURPOSE:To reduce a floppy disk driver in size by inserting a disk cartridge into a carrier while the carrier is in a hop-up state, and positioning the cartridge while the carrier engages a frame. CONSTITUTION:The device is reduced in size by employing a top loading system. The carrier 100 turns around a shaft 18 to receive the cartridge 44. The cartridge 4 when inserted is clamped between a cartridge presser 104 and a carrier body 102. When the carrier 100 is pressed in the frame body, the cartridge moves relatively to the upper half part of the carrier with its positioning recessed part 44b in contact with a positioning pin 36 and the reverse surface of the cartridge 44 leaves the reverse surface 102b of the carrier 100 gradually. When the carrier 100 is stored in the frame part completely, the cartridge 44 is moved completely to the upper half part of the carrier 10 with positioning pins 34 and 36 and held at this position, and a disk is driven by a spindle motor 22.
