The bird cage consists of a wire basket (1) and a plastic tray (10). In the condition of use, the wire basket is placed on a shoulder of the tray and connected thereto by easily releasable members. Since the wire basket substantially retains its ground plan towards the top, whereas the tray has a ground plan which becomes increasingly smaller towards the bottom, the possibility exists of reducing the space required for transportation and storage by placing the wire basket on the shoulder of the inverted tray. By means of webs moulded onto the tray which rest on an inner terminal wire of the wire basket, the tray and the wire basket are fixed relative to one another during transportation. <IMAGE>
