PURPOSE:To reduce the size of an image forming device by providing two image forming functions, and using the light output device of an equipment having the 1st image forming function as a light source to light up an original when an image is formed by the 2nd image forming function. CONSTITUTION:The laser light source 52 on the side of a laser beam scanning exposure mechanism 5 is driven on the basis of the detection signal for the front end of a led-in original from a sensor 71, and turns on continuously while a rotary polygon mirror 53 starts rotating. Then, the continuous laser beam L' from the laser light source 52 is made incident to the glass 62 of an original lighting part through the rotary polygon mirror 53, an image forming lens 54, a half-mirror 55, and the 2nd laser beam aperture 57 in order. Consequently, the picture surface of the original O led in the device is lighted and scanned breadthwise with the continuous laser beam L' while conveyed and passed on the glass 62 of the original lighting part, and its reflected light L'' of the scanning light beam from the original surface is projected on the surface of a rotating drum 2 which is charged electrostatically and uniformly by an electrostatic charger 4 through a lens array 68 to form and expose an image, thus writing original picture information on a drum.
