PURPOSE:To obtain a coating copolymer of high weatherability and resistance to staining, also with excellent coating workability, pigment dispersibility, and thickening feeling, by the copolymerization between styrene, a specific polymerizable monomer containing long-chain hydrocarbon group, and another monomer in specific proportions. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer with a number-average molecular weight 1,000-30,000, can be obtained by the copolymerization between (A) 20- 90wt% of a polymerizable monomer of formula (R1 is T-20C aliphatic acid residue; R2 and R4 are each 2-4C alkylene; R3 is 2-6C polymerizable unsaturated group-contg. dicarboxylic acid), (B) 80-10wt% of styrene, and (C) another copolymerizable monomer [e.g., (meth)acrylic acid].
