A tubular metal insert (10) has a threaded exterior (14) and an incomplete threaded interior (22) and is screwed into a tapped hole (18) in a base material (20) using an inserted driver tool (26). Discrete locking plugs (24,47,54,60) are positioned in the threaded exterior (14) of the insert (10) outwardly from the incompletely threaded interior (22). Rotation of the insert driver tool (26) completes the threads on the interior portion of the insert (10) which creates a force that urges the locking plugs (24,47,54,60) outwardly towards the wall of the hole to securely lock the insert (10) in the tapped hole (18). |
