The use of an L-sugar which cannot be metabolically degraded in an amount which suffices to block at least some of the receptor sites on the enzymes responsible for the metabolism of D-sugars, with periodic administration to a host animal to prevent or reduce the ability of the host animal to metabolically degrade D-sugars, is disclosed. |
