The invention provides for this purpose a tension-strand chain for special track-laying vehicles which is based on a flat-tooth engagement principle. The tension-strand chain, produced under precise conditions in full moulds, with teeth for the drive is constructed so as to ensure a fixed engagement in the tooth spaces of the axle drive. The engagement and coasting of the teeth takes place in a manner free from excessive friction; they largely correspond in their function to the teeth of a chain drive or of a gear drive. The tension-strand chain consists of a continuous element made from spirally twisted steel cord. The latter represent the most important component of the tension strand and are the secret of the exceptionally high tear resistance, the excellent bendability and the slight extension. The abrasion-resistant, flexible profiled rear of the tension strand encases the tension-strand chain, which transmits the power. Produced from high-grade, loosely cross-linked polyurethane (such as Vulkollan, Trolastik, Neothan etc). The latter protects the tension-strand chain when in use against external stress and strong abrasion (these plastics have 48 times the abrasion resistance of rubber). In the case of special applications of the tread, special profiles can be chosen for the particular use. <IMAGE>
