The facility includes a deck 16 mounted on buoyant support columns 32, a space frame 52 mounted below the support columns, and a base structure 78 which includes ballasted pontoons mounted at the lower end of the space frame 52 at a draft below the principle wave action zone. The configuration of the unit provides passive means to compensate for part of the dynamic response from external forces. Active means of compensation is accomplished by a riser tensioner system. Additional active means are provided to compensate for the quasi-static response of the facility to tidal variations and the riser draw-down due to steady state, wind, current and wave driven effect of the facility relative to the reference position on the sea bed. <IMAGE> |
